To be
answered in your lab books as you explore: (include evidence, documentation,
not just answers)
1) How
is an LED different than a light bulb?
2) How
do you hook up a DPDT switch so that it can reverse the direction of a
motor? (Include a diagram of how you would hook a power source and motor
up to such a switch)
3) How
does a potentiometer work to control the speed of a motor? What do you
think is inside? How do you hook one up? (Include a diagram) (Use a power
transformer to power this)
4) Soldering
(any hints recorded would be good)
5) Build
a device that:
a) has
an on/off switch with an indicator light
b) has
a reversible direction switch with indicator lights and labels (clockwise,
etc.)
c) Make
sure that at least the switches have soldered connections.
d) Has
a potentiometer that controls the speed of the motor
e) is
decorated with light bulbs that don't vary in brightness as you control
the speed of the motor.
f) Draw
a diagram of the circuit (we'll probably do this later, but take notes
in your book for later use.)
g) has
clean, easy to analyze wiring.
